The warning has sounded: a hurricane is approaching, bringing a promise of renewal—it has to. Rosie and Christophe are two people broken by time. Clinging to each other, they try to build a life amid a history of abuse and fear. When the past comes knocking, they are forced to become an island unto themselves, the sole occupants of the fallen International Space Station, stranded at the point farthest from any land. Sheltering in their bathtub as the cyclone rages outside, they try to rewrite the traces of the past. Is it truly possible to forget everything? Yet the ocean always gives up its dead: the undertow, the endless cycle of beginning again. Point Nemo takes place in the bathroom of the couple’s apartment. Here, the two characters create an entire universe to protect themselves from the reality of the outside world. Rosie draws Christophe into this game to shield him from memories he seems to have forgotten completely. She, meanwhile, becomes inhabited by the cyclone, a force of nature she longs to resemble. Symbols, imagination and dreams weave together a much broader tapestry of life. Point Nemo is a play for general audiences that explores the quest to rebuild one’s identity following physical and sexual trauma, through a symbolic universe that moves between dreams, memory, hope and reality.
