About GatinApp
Our Mission
GatinApp is a Gatineau app made by Gatineau people to help people in Gatineau do things in Gatineau with other people from Gatineau. This also applies to people from elsewhere, if they happen to be in Gatineau.
Our goal is simple: let people in Gatineau find out what's happening around them without having to scroll through 7 Facebook groups (yuck!), 38 official City of Gatineau sub-sites, and the back of an STO bus.
We also make it our mission not to take ourselves too seriously and give ourselves permission to be a little silly. If that doesn't suit you, please print your complaints and drop them in the nearest blue bin.
Our Values
Local First
Everyone already gets that GatinApp is Gatineau App — not my-city-app-controlled-by-silicon-valley-billionaire-pretending-to-be-local-you-fools-mouhahaha-app. Our mission is to put local first — and not just what's physically in Gatineau, but what has its roots in Gatineau.
Small Business
We are a small business, we want to help small businesses. Simple as that.
Transparency
We will be transparent, and if we decide to blow all profits at the casino instead of reinvesting locally, we will tell you.
First act of transparency: Our logo was generated by AI. It's a bummer, but there it is. We've been working for free for six months on this project, already spent a good chunk of money and hundreds of hours, so we went for the easy route. You have every right to throw rocks at us (metaphorical rocks only please). So first promise — if we make money with this thing, the first dollars spent will go to hiring a local artist to redo the logo.
Open Source
Now we're talking software — the software we use. We will favour open source and contribute to open source.
Our Team
For a project that doesn't make money, it's a bit premature to give ourselves titles. We've all met CEO-of-my-own-company-which-is-a-website-that-makes-no-cash types and it's always a bit cringe. We'll give ourselves titles when we've earned them — for now it's Paul and Rock.
We are childhood friends, formerly immediate neighbours in the Ruisseau housing co-op in Old Hull, and now work together on GatinApp.
Paul Stoica
Has worked for 20 years as a screenwriter and in the field of web, social media and innovation. He leads the creative and operational vision of GatinApp.
Rock Martel-Langlois
Telemetry genius and lover of Linux, Grafana and Open Source software. He is the architect of the solutions that keep GatinApp from crashing.
