A concert for flute, oboe and string quartet, presented by Olivier Philippe-Auguste. Program: • Jacques Hétu — Sérénade, Op. 45 • Franz Schubert — Fantaisie, D 940 (arr. A. Onguey) • Giacomo Puccini — Crisantemi, SC 65 • Antonin Dvorak — String Quartet, Op. 96, “American” Music can express all sorts of things. Franz Schubert and Giacomo Puccini wrote about the tragedy of life and the finality of death. Their search for meaning led to the creation of two brilliant works. Jacques Hétu, meanwhile, knows how to move us with just a few notes. Yet life always springs forth again, and few examples are as eloquent as Antonin Dvorak’s “American” Quartet. A chamber music counterpart to the New World Symphony, it was written by a Czech composer discovering America and its hidden treasures. It is a work that restores faith in life.
